International regulations for Drone-Operations in one Map

Due to the fact that we have customers all around the world, it is very important for us to get a quick idea of the legal regulations in specific countries. Anil Polat created this nice overview map where you can query the regulations by country! The map is also available as an app (DroneMate) for Android/IOS. If some data is missing you can also contribute to the map by editing and completing the displayed information. Thanks Anil! ...

Photogrammetry Software Review: Remake VS. Photoscan VS. Reality Capture VS. Zephyr

Nick Lievendag from 3dscanexpert.com wrote a nice review of different photogrammetry software that is currently on the market. The review is covering four different solutions: ReMake from Autodesk (USA), Agisoft Photoscan from Agisoft based in Russia, Reality Capture from Capturing Reality based in Bratislava/Slovakia, and 3DF Zephyr from the Italian-based company 3DFlow. The first test is to find out which software can produce the best results in 15 Minutes (using the same input datasets). Interesting results - in my opinion we definetly should keep an eye on Reality Capture. Their algorythms promise to make enormous computing power less important, which seems to work quiet well.  3dscanexpert.com is also providing detailed reviews of the different software solutions for those who can't decide what to use. Unfortunately Pix4D (or Esri's Drone2Map) and Betley's Context Capture was not part of the review, which would have been quiet interesting. Here you can read the full article   Full review ReMake Full review Photoscan Full review Reality Capture Full review 3DF Zephyr  ...

Land Viewer: fast & free, on-the-fly, real-time imagery processing and analytics

Founded in 2015 by Max Polyakov, EOS Inc. (EOS stands for the Earth Observing System) developed one of the best satellite data processing and analytics platforms out there. EOS’s back-end solutions are used by some of the Fortune 500 companies and the mapping industry leaders. The platform offers the fastest engine to search and process satellite and areal imagery I’ve ever seen. On the top, it features a massive set of filters and algorithms to analyze the data at any scale. Now, all these features are available for free to the general public. The company recently launched a new, impressive web-based tool where anyone can access, analyze and download satellite images for free. The service is called Land Viewer and offers free, on-the-fly, real-time imagery processing and analytics packed with features. It’s cool and insanely fast. It gives you access to imagery from Landsat 8 and Sentinel 2 satellites with more to come soon. (Aleks Buczkowski, geoawesomeness.com) Read More                                ...

Automated snow Avalanche 3D mapping using object-based analysis and near-infrared aerial imagery in ArcGIS

Snow avalanches are one of the most hazardous winter phenomena that occur in mountainous areas. They are dangerous to human lives, especially in tourist areas used as ski resorts. The Alps are the highest mountains in Europe. They are located across seven countries, but Switzerland is where the highest mountains ranges with the steepest slopes occur. On the scheme map and the pie chart below, we see that the Alps constitute a large part of Switzerland. Read More  ...

Photogrammetry De-Lightning Tool in Unity for photogrammetry enthusiasts

Unity’s senior technical artist Cyril Jover shared the video of the new tool, which will prove useful for photogrammetry enthusiasts. Basically, it uses some clever algorithms to remove all the unnecessary lighting information from the scan and make it more usable for environment design. The De-Lighting process requires an environment map that exactly matches the lighting conditions of the captured object. Typically, an environment map should be captured during asset acquisition. Because the De-Lighting Tool extracts environment lighting directly from the original lit texture, there is no need to capture any extra data for de-lighting. Read Full Article  ...
